What in God's name is this?
365 Beer is a game in which the participants attempt to drink 365 different brews of beer in 365 days. That's how many days there are in a year 75% of the time. It could be 366 Beer in a leap year. It doesn't much matter to me.
365 Beer was invented by Chuck, who is also the final adjudicator of all things 365 Beer. It was based on an idea called "365 Meat", which had a similar goal but was far more difficult and not very successful in the long run.
What are the rules?
For purposes of 365-Beer, a "beer" shall be defined as "an alcoholic beverage made from fermented cereal which is not distilled after fermentation." Generally, these beverages should be from 3 to 12 percent alcohol by volume. To make things a bit more interesting, we include fermented beverages made from fruit, not including anything in the wine family. That includes hard ciders, hard lemonade and other beverages at our discretion. Furthermore, "drinking a beer" shall be defined as "drinking 4 fluid ounces of said beverage."
Drinking a mix of two beers (i.e. black & tan) counts as drinking two separate beers (assuming there is 4 oz. of each beer). Drinking a beer with liquor in it (i.e. Irish Car Bomb) counts as drinking the beer (assuming there is 4 oz. of said beer). Neither one counts as a new creation or brew for purposes of 365-Beer.
Beers are categorized by brewer/brand and specific beer (i.e. Anheuser-Busch - Bud Light) for counting purposes.
What's this site for?
This site is a tracker for beers drank. It allows you to create an account, log in and add the beers you've drank. You can also look over all the beers in the database, see who else drank what, and maybe even find out a little something about certain beers (once the commenting part is done).
Why is the site invite-only?
Many of you may know that this site was featured on fark.com. This caused an influx of users who were total strangers. But I built this site for my friends and aquaintances, who were not inclined to use it alongside hundreds of strangers. This caused me a dilemma.
Most of all, the new users obviously didn't "get it" - they were adding incorrectly-labeled beers, and just clicking shit because it was there. Several of them had claimed to drink more than 60 different kinds of beer in the first seven days of the month. They were probably lying, but if they were being truthful, I don't want this site to encourage that level of alcoholism.
The solution, for me, was to make the site invite-only. So, I made my own little Holocaust, deleting many dozens of users who I didn't know, and putting the site back into the hands of my friends and aquaintances. That might make me a jackass, but I've been qualified for that position for quite some time.
Everyone can browse the site and enjoy it artistically, but not everyone can participate.
How do I join up?
Well, if you know me, I'll probably give you an invite. Email me at mistergone-at-gmail.com to find out.
